Murugadoss reveals the extreme physical pain behind 'Visaranai'

In an exclusive interview with us ‘Aadukalam’ Murugadoss who has played one of the pivotal roles in ‘Visaranai’ reveals the physical pain he and the other artistes went through to take the film to the highest standards of perfection.
Murugadoss’s friendship with Vetrimaaran goes back a long time and he says that when he met the director during ‘Visaranai’ pre-production he sat in front of his car demanding that he be given a role and thus ended up playing the character of Murugan which has shades of the comic as well as a tragic edge in it.
Murugadoss revealed that to get the look of the famished accused in custody, he, Dinesh, and the rest of the actors did not eat for three days. Though they were beaten up by dummies it still was very painful when brought down heavily on them ,which resulted in their bodies getting battered and bruised every day during the shooting. The talented actor sacrificed two of his front teeth for the scene when the policeman gives him a blow on the mouth. For the scene in which the men are flogged with bamboo shoots the actor playing the policeman was a little soft on them, but Vetrimaaran snatched the bamboo and flogged Murugadoss so heavily that he was writhing in pain and in tears and the director asked him how he felt and he had replied that he would like to run away from the spot and the director used his reaction as dialogue in the film.
Murugadoss is all praise for Vetrimaaran who he considers to be the number one world class director in Tamil cinema and he hopes he would get a role in ‘Vada Chennai ‘ too and is ready to fall before the director’s car once again.
