Director Arun Chidambaram's 'Kanavu Variyam' is a film that deals with the impact of power shortage crisis in the villages of Tamil Nadu. The film has won the prestigious ‘Remi Award’ which will be given at the 49th World Fest Houston International Film Festival scheduled from April 8-17, 2016.
Of over thousands entries, from over 43 movie-producing nations worldwide, only a few are chosen for screening. 'Kanavu Variyam's World premiere will be at WorldFest. In addition to playing the lead role and directing the movie, Arun has written the Story, Screenplay, Dialogues and Lyrics for ‘Kanavu Variyam’.
The recognition for 'Kanavu Variyam', doesn't end here. 'Kalla Manna' (‘Stone Or Sand’) a song featuring in 'Kanavu Variyam' has won international recognition too. It has been ACCEPTED to be screened by the 'Bare Bones International Film & Music Video Festival (17th Annual)' scheduled from Apr 19 to 24 in Oklahoma, USA. 'Kalla Manna', is an eye opener for young and old of all the indoor / outdoor games children can play (instead of sitting in front of video games and television). This music video showcases (lyrically and visually), 51 traditional games played in Indian villages.
In addition to these prestigious International recognitions, 'Kanavu Variyam' has also won the Special Jury award from the National Science Film Festival 2016, organized by the Government of India.
Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner and ace director Shyam Benegal has appreciated ‘Kanavu Variyam’ calling it “A fictional narrative celebrating the spirit of innovation in a young man”.
Arun Chidambaram, Writer and Director of the movie 'Kanavu Variyam,' completed his Masters in USA and worked for JP Morgan Chase in Chicago. Arun quit his lucrative returned to Chennai to pursue his dream and passion in Cinema.
Arun, is the son of 'Aanazhagan' Dr.A.Chidambaram, an Indian Sportsman, US trained Physical Culturist and a pioneer in the field of Physical Culture in Southern India for more than 4 decades. He has been the personal health adviser for several VIPs in Tamil Nadu including former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr.MGR.
‘Kanavu Variyam’ is produced by Dr.A.Chidambaram and Karthik Chidambaram in under the banner DCKAP.
The film will hit the local screens by the end of the year.
